SERVICE LEARNING INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Inclusive Communities Service Learning Internship Program provides an opportunity for IncluCity graduates to continue sharpening their leadership skills in the areas of advocacy, program development and nonprofit administration while engaging entire student bodies in activities that promote respect and inclusion within their schools.
During this year-long program two student interns from each participating school work with Inclusive Communities staff and school faculty to research current or emerging issues of intolerance and discrimination; organize, volunteer and recruit for human relations educational programs; and lead school diversity clubs and social justice awareness activities.
2011-2012 Participating High Schools:
Benson, Central, Millard North and Westside

UPCOMING EVENTS
Mix It Up Week (October 2011)
Building off of Southern Poverty Law Center’s MIX IT UP day, Inclusive Communities schools participate in mixing up the social barriers for one lunch block and give students the chance to step out of their comfort zones, allowing them to meet others different from them. Inclusive Communities interns are in charge of designing events, marketing the week, and organizing their club (and other clubs if desired) to implement the week, along with obtaining full support from the school administration. “My Service Learning Internship Program has given me valuable skills that I don’t think I would have learned anywhere else. During my internship, I’ve been able to use the curriculum learned from school, home and life, by applying it in everyday uses. I now have a better understanding of budgets, marketing, facilitation, group management, human relations, non-profit operation, but mostly, I have a deeper connection and passion for combating social justice and inequality. In short, I’ve become a more influential leader.”
