IncluCity

IncluCity is a transformative program designed to bring together up to 100 high school-aged youth from Nebraska, South Dakota, and western Iowa. Set at a retreat center outside of Omaha, participants stay in dorm-style lodging with three meals provided daily, accommodating various dietary needs. Inclusive Communities arranges transportation to and from the camp on a chartered bus, with predetermined school drop-off sites for convenience.

Structured as a weekend retreat, IncluCity offers students a safe and respectful environment where they can confront bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination. Here, participants examine their own biases and prejudices, discover strategies for dismantling stereotypes, build lasting cross-cultural relationships, learn conflict resolution skills, and become supportive allies for one another. The camp embraces discussions around race, gender, faith, sexuality, and other important topics, fostering meaningful dialogue and growth.

The experience is summed up powerfully by one 2024 delegate who shared: “At first, I wasn’t really sure that I would get anything out of IncluCity, but now I realize that I was wrong. It was a way to see a side of people (some from my school, some strangers) that I wouldn’t normally see. To me, IncluCity means learning and teaching about yourself and others, accepting different views and opinions, and growing into a person who can implement these new things into their life and the lives of others.”
